Extended Diploma in LAW

The ATHE Level 5 Extended Diploma in Law is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to the second year of a university degree.

This qualification has been designed for learners who wish to progress to university and, when taken in combination with the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Law, allows learners to progress onto an LLB top-up degree programme (the final year of university).

This is a core qualification available to existing and interested centres of ATHE.

Taught Units / Modules:

Year 1 (at CAS)

  • Contract Law – 30 CTS
  • Criminal Law – 30 CTS
  • Legal methods – 30 CTS
  • Public Law – 30 CTS


Upon completion of the 1st year, students will achieve L4 Extended Diploma in Law, awarded by ATHE and can progress to 2nd year. 

Year 2 (at CAS)

  • Equity and Trusts – 30 CTS
  • EU Law – 30 CTS
  • Land Law – 30 CTS
  • Law of Tort – 30 CTS


Upon successful completion of Level 4 and 5, students can join De Montfort University for LLB (Hons) Top-Up, Level 6 to achieve the full degree. Students are required to fulfil the University’s entry requirements to get unconditional offer including English language test such as Academic IETLTS with 6.0 band overall (with 5.5 minimum band in each component); Tuition fee payment; Statement of Purpose; and any other academic/non-academic conditions placed by the University at the time of admission for Top-Up.

Please note that students will study Legal Skills and Research instead of Equity and Trust in level 6, since the Equity and Trust module has already been completed in Level 5.

Entry Requirements:

  • Minimum 12 years education with pass and at least B Grade in English subject (both 1st and 2nd year)*.
  • Maths and English test (This will be conducted on computer at campus)**
  • Hand written Statement of Purpose (Explain why you wish to study this course and how would it benefit you in future)
  • Interview
  • 18+ years of age
  • IELTS 6.0 with minimum 5.5 in each element or equivalent (required before joining the UK University for 3rd year in UK)

Work Placement:

Students will be provided work placements at local Law Firms throughout the program to enable you to get industry knowledge in parallel to the studies.
